DEAR FRIENDS,
The bigger kids who go to kindergarten and primary school play theatre, thus passing on a centuries-old tradition. At their age the children’s songs, folk rhymes, children’s poetry and dramatic games can still rival the lifeless characters of the virtual computer-world.
Where does this basic instinct due to which our children come into this world with a playful attitude stem from? You have joined forces to some years ago to solve this mystery within the framework of the Glitterbird project. Your results in this short time span, and the effectiveness and success of the productions you’ve done all prove that the attraction and interest of our children towards arts cannot be established too early. Playfulness, creativity, the experience of live acting strengthen such abilities and skills in the children and often in the parents playing alongside them , which they will need more and more in the interest of their prosperity and happiness; even though they are not conscious of this at their age.
Budapest, through Kolibri Theatre, has joined the Glitterbird program with great joy. The theatres in our city have 3 million visitors a year, most of them young people. We are proud that we probably spend the most money on the maintenance of theatres and productions in Europe. We subsidize productions for children from a separate source.
Because we profess that good theatre is experience and easily reaches everyone. We also believe that in order to have an interested and skilled adult audience, they have to be endeared to theatre in their childhood.
This is why your experimental program is especially important to us and for the success of which you can count of the help of Budapest.
2005.
